- Rebooted LANDER and CAJON to perform disk maintenance on the system disk
on CAJON.
- Moved LANDER to another Ethernet port. Riley reported significantly
better performance.

to log errors.
- Attended the weekly Timers meeting.
- Fixed some minor problems that Riley reported in the backup procedure.
- Missed two days this week due to an accident.
- Synchonized the system clocks on all of the VAXes. The clocks on
different nodes were off by as much as several minutes, which was causing
problems by delaying paging messages.
- Fixed the wiring for the EDIS connection to BIGONE. EDIS messages are
coming through again.
- Tidied up the wiring for EDIS.
- Talked to Bob more about the network reconfiguration plan.
- Attended the weekly Timers meeting. We took a trip over to the old
Kresge lab to see how seismology was done in the old days.

attached to it. Made arrangements for Mike to talk to Pat Murphy in Menlo
Park about using the router to run our DECnet connection.

address on the alert list.
- Fixed a bug that Riley found in the backup procedure.
- Arranged to get Multinet licenses for three more of our systems.
- Assisted Bob with developing the network reconfiguration proposal.
- Istalled Multinet on MOJAVE, COYOTE, and CARIZO. Also updated the
installation on BIGONE.
- Got on the Caltech network manager's mailing list so that I can keep up
with the state of networking on the campus and know about problems when
they occur.
- Compiled and linked a Mosaic client for the Alpha.
- Fixed a minor problem with EDIS.
- MALIBU crashed on Monday afternoon. It was not clear what happened to it,
but I took the opportunity to relocate its network connection to the new
transceiver that was installed last week.
- Made arrangements with CCO to get updated software licenses for the VAXes
when the current ones expire on June 5th.
- Sent out Bob's network user survey and began collating responses. This
is part of the network reconfiguration effort.
- Got the new Campus Software License Grant information and began
installing it on the VAXes.
- Tested the Mosaic client for the Alpha. Got the .gif and .jpeg viewer
software to go with this.
- Another problem with EDIS came up this week. Talked to the people in
Sacramento about it, and they said that there was a software change this
week, and that our receiver had to be powered off and reset for it to take
effect.
- Investigated a tape problem that Nick reported with the tape drive on
MALIBU.
- Reconfigured the Multinet lpd server on BIGONE to allow the scec machine
to print to our print queues.

- Attended the Timers meeting, and the C++ informal class.
- Monthly Highlights for May, 1995
- Updated Multinet on BIGONE, and installed it on MOJAVE, CARIZO, and
COYOTE.
- Fixed EDIS after it had been down since November.
- Got the nightly backup procedure running in a regular production mode.
- Replaced the bad Ethernet transceiver that was causing performance
problems on MECCA, LANDER, BBEAR, and INDIO. The Timers report that these
machines are significantly faster now.
- Got the new software licenses for the VMS machines to replace the old
licenses that expire next month.
