- Fixed the network connection on the Mac in the "Dark Room" for Lisa.
- Changed the big HP plotter to automatically detect different types of
plot data sent to it.
- Wrote to CCO about problems that we had with the registration of Tejon
and Carizo in the domain name server. These problems were making mail sent
from these machines unreplyable. CCO fixed the problem.
- Changed the Anza data receiver program to change the format of the data
files that we get. This may help with the CUSP conversion.
- Hooked up the DECswitch 900 on the fiber by itself. After fiddling with
the jumpers a bit, we now have a functioning FDDI ring.
- Fixed a problem with printing a large Postscript plot for Jim.
- Lander crashed on Monday. The cause turned out to be that one of the
analysts had accidentally knocked the Ethernet cable loose, which
disconnected it from the network momentarily.
- Got the new account number to charge the Campuswide Software License
Grant to.
- Made arrangements with CCO to renew our VMS and Multinet software
licenses.
- Did some network recabling in the computer room. This is the beginning
of the network reconfiguration around the new DECswitch.
- Talked to one of the CCO consultants about printing to the big HP plotter.
Apparently, we have some sort of arrangement to allow the people down the
street in the re-engineering office to use our plotter for some large plots
they need to generate.
- Continued research on the occasional DECnet circuit drops that we
experience.
- Called a number of vendors to get information about terminal server and
modem products for possible use across the street.
- Got the Anza data conversion program to successfully read the Anza event
description files.
- Got the new software licenses from CCO.
- There was a problem with printing to the big HP plotter. The plotter
appeared to be live on the network, but would refuse any print jobs sent to
it. After talking to HP technical support, I changed the printer's address,
which fixed the problem. After changing it back, it continued to work. HP
had no explanation for this behavior.
- Got more information about modem equipment.
- Installed the new software licenses from CCO.
- Phil Maechling was asking about some issues related to terminal server
and modem pool that is being considered for purchase. He wanted to know if
this would enable him to log in from home and use X windows applications.
After trying this over a CCO dialup line, he was told that it would work,
although slowly.
- Talked to Wil Tanigawa at HVO about some problems he was having with his
software license database.
***
- Connected the new DECswitch 900 to the Ethernet, and began the first
stage of the network reconfiguration.
- Renewed the software licensing on the VAXcluster.
- Researched current modem and terminal server products for use in setting
up a dialup modem pool for use by seismo lab personnel.
- Got the Anza data conversion program to successfully read the Anza event
description files.
