- Assisted Wil Tanigawa at HVO with verifying that his software license
database was correct.
- Did some more testing of X applications over dialup PPP lines through CCO.
- Pulled this week's system and user disks backups out of the regular
rotation for archiving.
- Attended a DECUS real-time users meeting on campus.
- Did some research on sources for supplies for the big HP plotter. We are
currently on the last roll of paper.
- Cleaned up the system disk on Bigone, and ran defragmentation on the
Cajon and Bbear system disks.
- Ran the defragmenter on the Quick and Hot disks on Cajon.
- There was a problem on Carizo that turned out to be an expired license
for part of DECnet. Re-installing the license fixed the problem.
- Created a Pathworks for Macintosh queue for the large-format HP plotter.
- Turned on DECnet event logging on BIGONE as part of the research into why
DECnet connections sometimes suffer momentary interruptions.
- Located the USGS Plotlib software on Carizo for Doug.
- Attended the USGS staff meeting and the weekly Timers meeting.
- Replaced the power supply module on the DecSwitch 900. The original
power supply was a loaner.
- Installed the FDDI controller in Carizo and hooked up the fiber. Carizo
is now connected to the DECswitch through FDDI.
- Did some experiments to verify that the FDDI network and DECswitch are
working as promised.
- Moved Bbear to one of the DECswitch ports. This will allow Tejon and
Carizo to have a clear channel for moving large amounts of data on and off
of the disk on Bbear.
- Moved about 100,000 blocks of old log files off of MEM04 onto tape in
order to free up some space on the disk.
- Assisted OES with troubleshooting a problem with the EDIS satellite
receiver in the telemetry room.
- Moved the Anza data files that we have received so far off of the Tejon
system disk and onto the big disk on Carizo.
- Assisted Chuck with setting up the TCP/IP software on his PC.
- Got information from the people at Scripps in San Diego about changes in
how they will be sending the Anza data to us. They will be including a
third file containing picks.
- Defragmented the Hot and Quick disks on Cajon.
- Talked to DEC to get ordering information about software upgrades to
change the DECswitch 900 into a multi-protocol router.
- Made changes to the Anza data receiver program to include the pick file.
The new program is now running in a test mode.
- Mojave crashed on Friday. There was a spike in network traffic that
turned out to have been caused accidentally by a test gone wrong.
- Got a public-domain disk defragmenter program from DECUS. Ran the
analysis utility on the disks on Tejon and Carizo.
***
- Got the FDDI network running between Carizo and the DECswitch 900.
- Added the pick file to the Anza data receiver program.
