- Obtained information for Bob about Dec Alpha workstations.
- Added the DAILY_CHORES batch job to run on Tejon to clean up the CUSP
data processing directories on a regular basis.
- Updated DAILY_CHORES on the main cluster to reflect changes in the
processing environment.
- Talked to Allan Walter about arrangements for assisting Menlo Park with
their VMS operating system upgrade.
- Nick had a problem running FORGET on Carizo. This turned out to be
caused by a quirk in how VMS handles file and directory protections. When
a batch job tries to open a log file, if the log file does not exist, then
the file is opened if the directory protections allow it. If a previous
version of the log file exists, then the file is only opened if the
protections on the older version allow it.
- Began preparations for doing a VMS upgrade on the main cluster here.
- Made several new user accounts on Carizo to match the accounts on Tejon.
This was necessary because some of the batch jobs that the analysts run
have to run on Carizo.
- Fixed the default file protection mask for Carizo and Tejon to prevent a
recurrence of the problem that Nick experienced last week.
- Got information from Doug about what is necessary to complete the
conversion of the Anza network data to CUSP format. Began doing the
necessary programming to make this work.
- Linda had a problem with her Macintosh. Talked to Lisa about this and
got notes on how to fix it in the future.
- Bob got a system error while running Timit which was related to system
memory allocation. Talked to Allan Walter about this and found out that
they had increased the CTLPAGES parameter in SYSGEN to fix it.
- Per Egill's request, I booby-trapped Robby's account on Bigone so that it
would give her a message to call him when she logged in.
- Got the Anza conversion program to run and produce a MEM file.
- Assisted Blair with pulling a cable to connect his new Sun server to our
network.
- Did some research on fiber-optic Ethernet configurations.

Carizo and Tejon.
- Generated a MEM file from data received over the Internet from the Anza
network.
- Researched fiber-optic Ethernet configuration rules in preparation for
segmenting our network.
