- Avalon crashed several times this week and finally refused to boot. It
failed the hardware self-test, so the decision was made to replace it with
a used VAXstation. After getting several quotes on different machines, a
used VAXstation 4000-60 was ordered, along with two used color monitors.
One monitor will be for Avalon, and the other is to replace the monitor on
Lander.
- Continued with the VMS 6.2 upgrade. Installed layered product updates on
the two system disks for Bbear and Cajon.
- Got information on Ethernet print servers for the laser printers and on a
new monitor for my workstation.
- Fixed a minor disk corruption problem on the Unix Alpha workstation so
that Allan would have a place to log on.
- Installed VMS 6.2 system patches on the Bbear and Cajon system disks.
- Went to CompUSA and picked out a new monitor. Also ordered and received
the print servers for the two laser printers.
- Made an account for YAMAMOTO, who is the visitor in the Yellow House.
- The new monitors and new workstation for Kate arrived. The monitors
required some minor adjustments.
- Installed Kate's new workstation. It came with some extra memory
installed in it, so we now have some more memory for another workstation.
- Got a replacement motherboard for my desktop machine and installed it.
Now the machine runs much faster with the Pentium and 24MB.
- Did the main cluster operating system upgrade. The dust from this is
still settling, and will be for some time still.
