- Added Jet, Phil's new machine, to the FDDI ring.
- Installed FORTRAN and C compilers on the new Alpha workstations.
- Recabled the FDDI ring in the telemetry room to fix a potential problem
with the ring topology.
- Rebooted Tejon to increase its votes in the cluster. This is to avoid
possible problems due to the presence of the new Alphas.
- Got a quote for a memory upgrade kit for Tejon. This was in response to
reported problems with performance.
- Ojai [one of the new Alphas] hung repeatedly when Allan logged in. After
restarting the window system several times, we traced the problem to a
command in Allan's login.com that was making the window system hang.
- Installed a GKS version 6.4 upgrade on all of the Alpha machines.
- Nick reported that space on the MEM04 disk was getting very short. We
discussed possibly moving some of the MEM directories to MEM02. Jim had a
directory on MEM02 that was consuming 1/3 of the disk. After talking to
him, he agreed to delete some of it.
- At Katrin's request, added a procedure to automatically dismount and
remount the four NFS mounted jukebox disks. This forces an update to disks
that enables us to see files recently written.
- Moved Jim's directory on MEM02 to another disk. Bob then moved the 1994
directories from MEM04 to MEM02 to free up space on MEM04.
- Cleaned up some inactive accounts on Bigone.
- Assisted Nick and Bob with fixing some system problems on Tejon shortly
after the M5 on Wednesday, as well as during the day on Thursday.
***
- Reshuffled the MEMS disks to produce more space on MEM04 for new events.
- Dealt with system problems during the beginning of the current Coso range
sequence.
- Added memory to Tejon to help with performance. Bob also added another
disk to the system to allow us to spread out the disk load.
