- AVALON lost its network connection and crashed. This was compounded be
the fact that it would not reboot. This turned out to have been caused by
a problem in the DECnet permanent database. AVALON had been replaced
by a different computer from the original, but the database still had the
old hardware address. This kept the server from servicing the boot
requests from the new machine.
- LANDER would not reboot after a shutdown. This turned out have been a
similar problem to what happened to AVALON.
- The NFS connection to the jukebox developed a problem. This was fixed by
restarting the DNFSACP process, which controls access to NFS disks on
Bigone.
- Made node Ridge a standalone VMS machine in preparation for it to take
over the processing that Carizo is currently doing.
- Moved disks around in order to move all of the MEMs onto one of the big
9GB disks.
- Set up the JetDirect card on the Laserjet4 in the yellow house. This
printer is now accessed directly over the Ethernet.
- Registered the name for Phil's new machine on our network.
- Moved all of the MEM files to the new disk and moved the disk to Bigone.
This freed up several disks that will be used on Carizo for it to function
as an online system.
- Tejon crashed when the MKA400 tape drive failed. Bob came in and swapped
the drive with the one on Mecca.
- Created accounts on Carizo to match the accounts on the other online
systems.
- Began research into tape drive alternatives to replace the current DAT
drives used for Squirrel on Tejon.
- Took Carizo out of the Tejon cluster so that it can be a standalone
system and function as an online system.
- Got some price quotes on new DAT drives and also for DLT drives.
***
- Carizo is now an online system.
- Another DAT drive failed this month, which now puts us into a critical
situation for maintaining both Squirrel and system backups.
- Moved all the MEMs to a single 9GB disk on Bigone.
