- Did some research into modem and terminal server products for possible
purchase for the office.
- Sent the new, but defective, tape drive back to Digitape.
- Checked out the Solaris 2.5.1 CD set for installation on Terra10.
- Set up an account for the work-study student who is going to be reading
the old 1983 data tapes.
- Cleaned up the user disk.
- Still researching the problems with Carizo hanging.
- Found the `smoking gun' with SCARAB on Carizo. Was able to watch it hang
the system.
- Discovered that the Finger server on Bigone was broken. It is fixed now,
but there is no telling how long it was not working, as we received no
complaints about it.
- Installed Solaris for the first time on Terra10.
- Tejon crashed on Saturday with what appeared to be hardware errors.
Diagnostics indicate the Turbochannel bus or a board on it may be bad.
- Tried the DR11-W Turbochannel board on the bus in Ridge and still had
errors. On this basis, we sent the board back to the Logical Company for
repair.
- We discovered that the Alpha machines were vulnerable to the `Ping-OfDeath'
bug. Installed a patch to correct this.
- Got a replacement for the bad tape drive this week.
- Carizo had a problem with printing the automatic focal mechanism plots
due to print queue problems.
- Turned on image-level accounting on Bigone for a temporary test so that
we can determine if anyone is using the programs in the LEAP directory.
- The Alarm server was dying on Carizo. This turned out to be because the
system was exceeding the maximum allowed processes set in the system tuning
parameters. This can be adjusted, but requires a system reboot, which is
not feasible while Carizo is the only on-line system.

third, and fourth times, too.
