- Traded some SCSI cables with Steve so we can hook up some more of the
hand-me-down disks we got from Rob Clayton.
- Met with Phil about things that need to be done to set up Spring.
- Got Xemacs 19.15 to install on Boron for Doug.
- Fixed the mail configuration on Spring.
- Bbear had a disk problem. The SCSI bus hung, causing disk resets and
errors. A power-off restart of the system cleared the problem.
- Went with Lisa to pick up the new color printer.
- Set up the color printer.
- The NFS client on Bigone lost its mind, causing a failure of
communications with the SCEC jukebox. Restarting the process cleared the
problem.
- Did some testing of a new cell phone and modem for the football. It
turned out not to work with the US Robotics modems in our modem pool, but
it worked very well with a Telebit T3000. We set up a T3000 on one of the
dialup server ports for use by the duty seismologist.
- Bigone crashed with an apparent hardware problem. A cold restart brought
it back up, but the serial ports [TXA0:-TXA7:] no longer worked. This
killed paging on Bigone.
- Moved paging to use a serial port on one of the LAT terminal servers
while we order a replacement for the TXA controller on Bigone.
- Spring developed a power supply problem in one of its redundant power
supplies. This did not crash the machine, but Sun Service was notified and
they came out and replaced the faulty part.
- Lisa got some memory for her Sparc IPX. Installed the memory and the
system would not boot. After talking to Vangard about this, they arranged
to replace the SIMM with another one.
- Set up aset security checking on Iron and Jet.
- Put in an order for a second-hand serial controller board to replace the
one in Bigone that went bad.
***
- Set up the new Lexmark color laser printer.
- Bigone and Spring both had hardware problems. Spring was fixed under
warranty by Sun, and a replacement for the bad board in Bigone has been
ordered.
- Set up a dialup port for use by the duty seismologist and the football.
