- Fixed the modem-type parameter for port 6 on the Lantronix dial-up server.
This is the port that is used for the football.
- Got the two new Sun Ultra-1 workstations.
- Moved Ojai out of Allan's office and began setting up one of the new Sun
Ultras in there.
- Set up the second new Ultra for Doug. This involved reinstalling the
operating system and moving all of his files to the new machine.
- Figured out how to enable a functional VMS-style terminal window on the
new Sun workstations. This will allow Doug and Allan to still use these
machines for VMS work.
- There were some memory simms that were removed from Carizo hanging around,
and we realized that these could be put into Ridge, so we did this on the
16th.
- Attended the City of Beverly Hills disaster preparedness fair on
Wednesday the 15th.
- Roamed the Net collecting software tools for use on the new unix systems.
- Installed a memory upgrade in Dave Wald's Sun.
- The packet radio used for paging off of Tejon broke this week. We
figured out which radio and modem it used, but cycling power on them did
not work. Kate talked to Steve in Pennsylvania, and he gave us a contact
at Airtouch, but we were not able to resolve the problem. Until this is
fixed or Steve comes back, all paging will go through Bigone.
- Put a new disk into Wwolf and moved the operating system onto it. This
is part of Bob's plan to build an experimental online system.
- Physical plant starting installing the wiring for CITnet 2000 in the
telemetry room.
- Set up a way for the pager processes on Bigone to send a page if they die.
- Looked up information about AIT and DLT tapes for possible use for
PackRat.
- Experimented with ways to automatically move files between unix systems.
- Set up ssh [secure shell] and began testing. This is supposed to provide
a secure alternative to the rsh and rcp commands on unix.
- Contacted Vangard about the status of Lisa's memory simm that we sent
back to them several weeks ago. They were very apologetic that it had
fallen through the cracks.
- Started learning how to set up the Sun disk automounter to allow for
automatic NFS disk mounting between machines.
***
- Set up two new unix machines.
- Assisted with the packet radio paging problem.
