- Met with Phil and Doug to go over the state of Sun administration tasks
and responsiblities.
- Got Solaris 2.6 from CCO. Did the upgrade on sylmar and onyx.
- Set up the Sun Automounter on sylmar, onyx, and boron. This will allow
for NFS mounting of home directories over the network.
- Got the replacement memory simm for aladdin and installed it.
- Got a new version of Netscape and Java for Wwolf.
- Did more testing of over-the-network backup for the Solaris machines.
- Dave Wald had a new disk for genie that needed to be assembled and
prepared for installation.
- Attended AlliedSignal business ethics training.
- UCX on Coso had a configuration problem related to having been moved back
to Bigone. Reconfiguration fixed the problem.
- During preparations for the Solaris 2.6 upgrade on boron, the ethernet
interface was failing whenever large amounts of data were pushed through it.
Called Sun and they are shipping out a replacement under warrranty.
- Got network backups working on Solaris.
- Put the replacement board in boron. After this, the ethernet still
failed. More testing showed that the solution was voodoo. The ethernet
works if it is plugged into the hub in Dave Wald's office, but not the hub
on the second floor landing, despite the fact that they are both the same
model hub, and also in spite of the fact that there are two other machines
with the same ethernet working off of the second floor hub.
- Did the Solaris 2.6 upgrade on boron.
- Put a new, larger disk on Bigone for the User disk.
- Located a new used refrigerator for the Tan House kitchen, and just in
time to start stocking it for the Christmas Party.
- Sent the unneeded replacement board from boron back to Sun.
- Figured out how to have cron automatically mail the reports generated by
aset during its overnight runs.
