- Helped to move the conference table from the back room of the tan house
to the upstairs landing for the printers.
- Velcroed the printers down on the new table.
- Tested the new Sun tape drive.
- There was a power failure in the seismo lab at 14:40 on Monday. This
caused all of the computers to crash.
- Alberto bolted spring to the floor in the telemetry room.
- Fixed the proxy access protections so that Phil would be able to access
directories on the online systems.
- Inventoried online system hardware in preparation for Bob making a pitch
for a small UPS for the online systems.
- Called OES in Sacramento about the EDIS system being dead.
- The new Netra web server arrived.
- Got the new Netra up and running.
- Met with CCO about plans for converting the seismo lab computers to the
new network.
- The monitor on Malibu was going bad. Got a quote for a refurbished
monitor. In the meantime, I was able to borrow a monitor from Jim Westphal
in Planetary Science.
- Did the system software upgrade on the DECswitch 900EF. This adds some
more functionality to the switch so that it can filter traffic based on
addresses. This will prevent the packet storm problem that we had back in
December.
- Allan and Doug were having a problem with too many open files on Solaris.
We tried a kernel parameter adjustment suggested by the Solaris FAQ, but
this did not fix the problem.
- Set up spring to export a development directory to Allan and Doug's
machines. Also set up automounting of the USGS web pages on their machines.
- Lucy was having a problem with an old Plotlib program that she was
displaying on her unix workstation. The fix turned out to be to run it
from a DECterm displayed on unix. This allowed Plotlib complete control of
the display.
- Got the current USGS web pages directory from kipuka to mount on the new
Netra server. This will make the transition to the new web server somewhat
smoother.
- Got information about buying tapes for the Exabyte drive that came with
the Netra.
- Attended Blair's `Brain Dump'.
- Set up a web server on sylmar and wrote some simple web pages to describe
some of the work that has gone into the setup of the current unix systems.
- Moved Flint to Katrin's area and installed Solaris 2.6 and the Apache web
server on it.
