- Configured one of the Cisco 2500 SLIP routers for installation at China
Lake.
- Set up the new configuration on Spring to allow backups over the network.
- Talked to Will Prescott about fixing a problem with the Mailto: tags on
the mirror of the Menlo Park web page. The problem occurred because of the
round-robin DNS arrangment for load balancing. Half of the time, the
machine name in the mail address resolved to the IP address of ehzsouth,
which does not have a `webmaster' account on it. These messages would be
marked undeliverable and bounced to postmaster. Advised Will that the best
fix would be to have the Mailto: tags point to a machine with a static IP
address.
- Found another typo in the monthly update script on Flint.
- Ran crack on the password files for the main Trinet development systems
and for the web servers.
- Reconfigured Cajon and Bbear to be Bigone satellites and rebooted the
entire cluster. The reboot was necessary to clear an NFS problem, so the
timing was fortunate. The cluster is now set up with a single boot node,
which reduces the number of VMS licenses we need to pay for on a yearly
basis.
- Assisted several people with pre-AGU problems with printing
transparancies and large posters.
- Had jury duty Monday-Wednesday.
- SMTP mail broke on Bigone, due to a bad message at the head of the mail
queue. Removing the bad file fixed the problem and allowed the backlog to
clear.
- Set up several majordomo mailing lists for shake map groups in iron.
- The SLIP router at China Lake was installed, but not working. Had to add
an explicit route to its internal routing table to get it to work.
- Added aliases for `webmaster' on both ehzsouth and flint. Both point to
Lisa Wald.
- Got qpage to work on ehzsouth. This gives us an independent stand-alone
paging capability for emergency use.

- Got the China Lake SLIP router configured and working.
- Reconfigured the VAXcluster for a single boot node.
