- Built the new Apache web server version 1.3.4. This is an upgrade to fix
a few known problems on the old version. It will be used for the Trinet
web servers.
- Installed The Ultra-5 Formerly Known as Iron in Bruce Worden's are as new
node name Garnet.
- Moved The Ultra-5 Formerly Known as Water into Sarala's office as node
Nitya. The former Nitya is the old Sparc-10 that will be shifted to the
Timers' room.
- There was a problem with mail forwarding for user root on Iron.
- Inquired at ITS about getting a 66-subnet port hooked up in the basement
room where Mojave will be living.
- Reconfigured the SCSI bus on the new Iron to clear up some intermittent
bus errors.
- Got JDK 1.2 for installation on Quake.
- Installed required patch number 105181-10 in Quake along with the JDK
software.
- Added the Trinet logo and footers on the Earthquake Reports pages that
are automatically generated by shell scripts.
- Worked with Lisa Wald to set up a web-based pager interface that can be
accessed off the USGS Pasadena internal web page.
- Ojai crashed and refused to reboot. The SCSI controller on the main
board failed with a slight burning smell. Visual inspection showed one
burned diode on the board. The system is still under warranty for parts,
so Field Service came out and replaced the board for the 2-hour minimum
labor charge.
- Will Prescott reported some problems with sending automatically-generated
messages to some of the machines here. The problem turned out to be in the
configuration of the machine he was using to send the messages.
- Talked to Will Prescott about changing the `round-robin DNS' scheme for
our Pasadena web server. He changed the Time-To-Live setting on the names
reported by the Menlo Park name server, which should give us a better
response in Pasadena.
- Got the latest version of QDDS installed and running on Quake.
- Got some information about purchasing additional copies of Adobe
Framemaker for use on the Trinet machines.
- Resurrected Mojave as a satellite node in the Bigone cluster so that it
can be put back to work reading 9-track tapes.
- Installed Apache 1.3.4 on Flint.
- Added subnet 64 to the allow list for the intranet web server on Terra10.
- Investigated some attempted break-ins on several of the Trinet
development systems.
- Applied several security patches to the Trinet Solaris systems.

- Got Will Prescott to adjust the DNS in Menlo Park so that we will not
have to do a time-consuming name lookup every time we access our office web
page.
- Mojave is back up and running to finish reading the old 9-track data.
- Upgraded Iron hardware.
- Installed JDK and QDDS on Quake.
