- Upgraded Wwolf to VMS 7.2.
- Got information on buying DLT tapes for Trinet system backups.
- Fixed the area codes in the 'Useful Phone Numbers' web page. The area
codes for people in La Canada were not correct.
- Added Katherine Kendrick to paging services.
- Newport, the hallway waveform display in S. Mudd, was hacked and used as
a base to launch attacks on other systems.
- Three of the Trinet development machines were hacked over the weekend and
used to launch Denial Of Service attacks on the Caltech network. It was
only necessary to reboot to fix them.
- The Jet GigaRAID-HA failed on Sunday. Called Andataco on Monday morning
and performed some diagnostics.
- City power failed at the office from 16:32 until 18:54.
- Derek from Data General came out and replaced both controllers on the HA
RAID on Tuesday. Jet came back up and ran for about six hours before
failing again.
- Sick on Wednesday and Thursday.
- Reinstalled Solaris on Newport for the hallway display in S. Mudd.
- Derek from Data General came out and replaced the right-side controller
and the main chassis of the HA RAID. After this, Jet booted up properly
and ran for six hours before failing again.
- Caltech ITS recommended a kernel configuration fix for the hacks on the
Trinet machines earlier in the week. Installed this on the main web
servers.
- Power failed from 19:45 to 20:15 on Monday night.
- Contacted Andataco about the Jet RAID failure. They asked for more
information and said that they would send out an engineer to work on it.
- Got the new Cisco 7204 connected to the ethernet switch in the telemetry
room.
- Rebuilt Newport and Chalk, which are the two hallway display machines on
the second floor.
