- Located the additional processors, memory, and disks for the new E450
server. Finished assembling it, installed and configured Solaris 2.7.
- Talked to Bill Frank at Airtouch about problems we experienced with
paging over the weekend.
- Tested paging over the Internet using the Airtouch SNPP server.
- Installed more minor updates to the Simpson map software on the USGS
Pasadena web server.
- Installed Big Brother on the two new E450 servers, Hotspot and Willow.
- Got a replacement for one of the failed RAID disks. Installed it in the
RAID on Spring as a hot spare.
- Set up exports of disks on Willow for automounting on workstations of
the Shake Map group.
- Programmed a SLIP terminal server for installation as CVWD2 at the
Coachella Valley Water District.
- Updated the Java Development Kit on Jet to JDK 1.2.
- Upgraded Netscape on Iron to version 4.7.
- Installed Javaplus 1.2 on Iron.
- Got a Big Brother client for VMS and installed it on Bigone, Tejon, and
Ridge.

configuration notes there.
- Put Swish-e on Terra10 as a search engine for the station updates mail
archive.
- Programmed another SLIP terminal server for installation at Edwards Air
Force Base.
- Installed the new 7204 router in the new rack in the telemetry room.
- Fixed a problem with sendmail on Hotspot. The stock version that comes
with Solaris is an old version that does not work with our new
configuration files. Installed an updated version.
- Talked to Katrin about NFS mounting issues. We were experiencing
problems because several of the disks we mount were moved from Scec to
Quake, which hung the VAX NFS client.
- Called DWP to try to prod them into action to fix their router so that
station LFP would be reachable from our network.
- Set up accounts for the Trinet event review pages on Terra10 for all of
the Duty Seismologists.
- Set up the user_manage.pl script on Terra10 so that Duty personnel can
change their web site passwords.
- Installed Perl 5.00503 on Hotspot.
- The 'waveforms' links for Northern California events were broken on the
Simpson map on the Pasadena web server. Fixed this in the req_cube2html.pl
script.
- There was a problem with the NFS mounts on Bigone. This turned out to
have been caused by the fact that the disks to mount had been moved.
Previously, they had been exported from Scec. Now they are exported from
Quake. Having the mounts pulled out from under it caused the NFS client on
Bigone to hang. Had to reboot the entire VAXcluster to clear problem.
- Built up a new mailserver machine to act as a Majordomo listserver for
the USGS office.
- Assisted Patrick with Perl on Quake in order to enable the use of tpage
for Trinet alarming.
- Got the root passwords for Katrin's machines in case Karen needs
assistance during Katrin's trip to South America.
