- Split the four pieces of registered memory between Ciim and Dawn
to give each 512M. Sent the unregistered memory back to NewEgg.
- Reported on web traffic levels for the four main earthquake sites.
- Upgraded Garnet to Solaris 8.
- Installed one of the new UPS units in the 525 computer room.
- Fixed the compiler and TeamWare licenses on Garnet.
- Made a database with a web-based interface for our office pager list.
This will allow us to generate the web page pager lists out of the
database instead of having to maintain the lists by hand.
- Holiday on Thursday. Vacation on Friday.
- The disk on Horst was reporting errors that indicate that it is
close to failing. Stan Silverman purchased a replacement for it.
Installed the replacement and configured it on Tuesday.
- Scanned the 66 subnet for ftp servers.
- Installed gnuplot and ImageMagick on Ciim.
- Reinstalled Solaris 8 on Craton.
- Conference call with Akamai about log delivery.
- Installed the three remaining UPS units in the 525 computer room
in preparation for the online system move.
- Hooked up the cisco switch in the 525 computer room to extend the
data LAN from the telemetry room.
- Moved Lamprey and T1-2 on Monday, hooking them to the data LAN in
the 525 computer room.
- Moved the E4000 online system on Tuesday. Reconfigured it for the
new network setup and renamed it Pacific.
- Configured the serial line on Pacific for CDMG.
- Moved the CDMG serial line on Spring to /dev/term/b.
- Got the part number and information for a differential SCSI board
for Hotspot so that we can put the old Andataco AA RAID on it.
- Hooked up the old Jet dialout modem to Rift for paging use.
- Set up the ftp information for Akamai to activate the log delivery
service.
- Wrote a Perl script to get the Akamai web logs from clover.wr.usgs.gov.
- Vacation all week.
- Power failed in the S. Mudd computer room on Saturday morning. The
air conditioning was not working, and the temperature shutoff tripped.
The power was down for about two hours. Came in to help with recovery
after power was restored.
- Network blocks ordered by the court in the Indian lawsuit broke Big
Brother. Reconfigured Big Brother to use a single server on the 65
subnet to avoid the port blocks.

- Extended the private data LAN across the street to the new computer
room in 525. Moved one of the cisco routers and its T-1 line to the
new computer room.
- Moved one of the Trinet real-time systems from the S. Mudd computer
room to the new computer room in 525.
- Made a database to keep track of our pagers. This will make the
paging services files more maintainable.
